Great power and great irresponsibility:
So, Democrats in the US House of Congress will be working for the withdrawal of troops in the next year (2008).
Apparently the plans, which are to be part of a war spending bill, include refocusing "the military attention on the U.S. fight against the Taliban in Afghanistan".
Now I was vehemently against this invasion, the occupation, the dishing out of contracts to American (and other) war-profiteers but I find this push-push-push for withdrawal troubling, to say the least.
It matters to me that more than 3,000 Americans have been killed in Iraq. But I also care that more than 58,000 Iraqis have been killed as a direct or indirect result of US policy and actions in Iraq.
And I find it hugely irresponsible and reprehensible that the Democrats are making this move based on wanting to protect their troops alone. You brought this situation to Iraq - whether based on 'false information' or not. And I think it's grossly unfair to plan a withdrawal for your troops without specifying exactly what security measures will be left in place for the Iraqis.
Not that I expect anything more, or better - but my point is that I wasn't happy about the invasion, nor am I happy about the withdrawal. But what's the solution??
