on a partisan
Recently added to my musical great ones is the beautiful and distinguished Marcel Khalife, who will be playing at the Culture Hall next to the museum on March 1 and 2.
Sadly (extremely sadly) I will not be able to see him play, but I would recommend the concert anyone with an ear/heart/brain ... or in fact let someone who is going take my ears with them.
The first time I heard Marcel was at his Bahrain concert last year, and I've barely stopped listening since. The culture hall was packed, lots of people in their fancy kneed frocks and suits sat on the steps in the auditorium and on the floor in front of the stage. For those interested in this problem of unity we have here: when he sang Rita (one of the best songs I've ever heard) pretty much everyone sang along with him. The lady next to me had a baby on her lap and the song was like.. a gentle collective lullaby.
Recently I have been listening to the album At the Border, and I love it. It starts like an album for children with a song about the wolf, but that just makes the Arabic easier for me =) ... and a girl named Oumayma Khalil sing on it, she has a magical voice, really sweet but strong.
Right now, I'm really really stuck onthe song 'at the border' (they stopped me at the border and said they wanted my documents, i told them they are in Jaffa, my grandmother has hidden them). Yai.
