Fools, and the 'children of the revolution'
"In other words, the establishment realises that the children of the revolution are rebelling against drab, uniform-style clothing, and it wants to keep them in line by offering a little glamour. "
The other day I saw bits of a Bbc report on the Iranian government's attempts to make the hijab cooler for young women (well, presumably as cool as a government dictate can get).
The Pretty And Pious fashion show featured 'good Islamic' dressing and 'bad Islamic' dressing. Don't you just love it when the authorities make the world so easy for us to understand?
Although not included in the online write up, the presenter Frances Harrison took the trouble to explain ón the TV version What Not To Wear: the model in question's neck was showing below her hijab, she was wearing a lot of make up - and, get this, carrying a phone - "a symbol of western decadence".
Nevermind that shoe, somebody pass me a mobile phone.
